President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Isiolo visit has been cancelled.

The Head of State was supposed to launch tele-medicine technology at Isiolo Referral Hospital tomorrow (Monday).

A senior government official confirmed that the visit had been postponed to a later date but did not reveal the reason for the last minute cancellation.

“It is true that the President will not visit Isiolo as had earlier been planned. We will give further details once a new date has been set,” the officer who sought anonymity told the Press Point.

The tele-medicine services that Governor Mohammed Kuti earlier said will be available at the Referral and Garbatulla Sub-County Hospitals will rid residents in far-flung areas the burden of traveling for longer distances to access specialised treatment.

The technology will enable patients visiting the local health facilities access diagnostic services and get treated online without traveling to the hospitals where the experts (doctors) are based.

The Isiolo County government will undertake the project in partnership with Huawei, Safaricom and the Kenyatta National Hospital.

The Head of State was also to inspect complete and ongoing projects being undertaken by his government in the county.

There were claims that some groups had been mobilized to heckle Dr Kuti to embarrass him like they did when ODM Leader Raila Odinga toured the region on Saturday.
