Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has been safely evacuated after her convoy was trapped in a shootout between bandits and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers in Marsabit.
CS Wahome was from inspecting the construction of Bakuli Dam when the incident happened.
A group of armed cattle rustlers had killed a herder before stealing an unknown number of goats and cows near Catholic Shrine in Saku Sub-County.
The criminals are said to have driven the animals into Marsabit forest where they bumped into the wildlife officers who engaged them in a fierce gunfight.
The CS was safely evacuated to Marsabit Police Station where she boarded a flight to Nairobi.
The incident comes barely a week after eight people including three minors were killed in a bandit attack in Laisamis.
Local leaders have since appealed to President William Ruto and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to offer a lasting solution to the insecurity crisis being experienced in the county.
