Candidates contesting for gubernatorial seats will from 2027 general elections not be required to be University degree holders to be eligible to vie.
This follows a ruling by High Court in Nairobi that found the academic requirement for Governor and Deputy Governor unconstitutional.
Justice Antony Mrima said eligibility for election of a Governor is akin to that of MCA.
The court quashed the legal provision that has been used in the past three general elections saying it contravened the Constitution.
The ruling, the Judge said, will take effect in the 2027 general election.
