The Equity Bank has rolled out tree planting drive targeting public institutions in efforts to ensure a greener environment and help beat climate challenges.
Among the institutions to benefit from the seedlings are schools, churches, public offices and correctional facilities.
Speaking during the launch of the initiative at Isiolo GK Prisons that benefited with 5000 trees, Equity bank Isiolo branch manager James Huka they hope to plant 23, 000 trees before the end of the month.
The trees are part of the 35 million that the bank intends to plant countrywide by the end of the year.
“Let us tend the trees and ensure they reach maturity so that we have a greener and cool environment,” the Manager said.
The county Prison Commander Eustace Mwangi said the institution will take good care of the trees by watering them often and ensuring animals do not feed on them.
