Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti has been put to task over mismanagement of more than Sh100 million Covid-19 response funds disbursed to his county by the national government.
Dr Kuti was on Monday grilled by the Senate Health Committee for spending Sh111 million without an approved work and procurement plans and budget.
The funds included a Sh16 million conditional grant, Sh30 million under the Kenya Devolution Support Programme and Sh21 million Health Allowances.
The County is also on the spot over irregular award of Sh9.4 million tenders.
A recent auditor general’s report showed that counties flouted procurement laws, awarded tenders to select firms and made questionable payments resulting in the loss of billions of public funds.
The Senator-Michael Mbito-led-Committee gave the governor more time to furnish the Auditor General’s office with relevant documentation on how the funds were utilized.
