Police in Isiolo have been allowed to detain for two weeks man suspected of murdering his wife over domestic squabbles to allow completion of investigations.

The accused, Brian Onyango reportedly stabbed Vivian Akinyi, a primary school teacher, with a knife on January 27 at Kambi Garba area over claims that she had an affair with an officer.

It is reported that the suspect had visited the lady at her house when commotion ensued. The victim died on arrival at Isiolo Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The suspect, who immediately fled after committing the act vanished to Mombasa, was last week flushed out of his hideout at Kisauni area by sleuths who had been tracking him for past two weeks.

The duo had lived together since June last year but the woman left five months later after she started receiving death threats from her husband according to police.

An officer privy to the matter told the Press Point that the police officer implicated in the saga had already recorded statement at Isiolo Police Station following the incident.

When he was arraigned before a court in Isiolo, the investigating officer requested the court to allow him detain the suspect for 14 days pending probe.

The detectives among other things intend to record statement from the deceased’s parents and subject the suspect to mental assessment, the officer told court.

Chief Magistrate Samuel Mungai directed that the suspect be detained at Isiolo Police Station for 14 days.

The case will be mentioned on February 24, 2020.
