Some 14 rifles, a General Purpose Machine gun and more than 600 rounds of ammunition have so far been recovered during the ongoing ‘Rejesha Amani Marsabit’ security operation that seeks to restore peace, security and safety in the region.
The weapons that include three rifles, two AK-47 and G3 rifle handed over to authorities by Bubisa elders, were confiscated between May 10 and May 13 this year.
Police say most of the weapons were recovered during search and recovery operations in the curfew area, while others were surrendered to the police and local chiefs.
The security team has also recovered a large haul of bhang.
Members of the public have been encouraged to voluntarily surrender illegal firearms to security teams undertaking the operation.
