Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has appointed her husband, Baite TV founder, as the Meru Youth Service patron and “ambassador of Meru Hustlers”.
The ambitious plan that was launched by former Governor Kiraitu Murungi in early 2018 is somewhat similar to National Youth Service and is aimed at providing sustainable livelihoods to youths.
While unveiling her 10-member cabinet, Governor Kawira said Murega will serve in the position as a volunteer and that he will not enjoy any perks.
“The first gentleman of the county will not be paid or compensated,” she said.
Interestingly, two clerics Reverend Caroline Kalia Kabeeria and Bishop Kiambi Atheru have been appointed to the cabinet to head Agriculture and Water dockets respectively.
Mr Dickson Munene Nkanata will take over as new Public Service and Legal Affairs CEC, Dr George Gikunda Mungania will head Health docket while Ms Monica kaithiori kathono takes over the Finance department.
Others are Casty Kaimuri Micheni (Youth, Sports and Gender), Japhet Ndumba Ithumba (Land, Physical Planning and Urban development), Joseph Thuranira (Education, Science and ICT), Ms Esther Karimi Njeru (Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives) and Murungi James Muthomi who will be in charge of Roads and Energy.
Others appointments included that of Chief of Staff Gitonga Harrison Gatobu, legal advisor Thuranira Atheru and Chief Medical advisor Dr Dennis Muriungi Mugambi.
“I have today unveiled the Cabinet team that will assist me in running my government, subject to vetting and confirmation by the County Assembly of Meru,” she later shared.
The county boss said she had done a thorough background check of the team and exuded confidence they will deliver to the electorate.
