Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip has been released on Sh500, 000 cash bail or Sh1 million bond over unlawful use of firearm and causing grievous harm to a woman in Nanyuki.

The legislator shot Joy Makena, currently admitted in hospital, on the right leg around 2am on Sunday morning following a disagreement at Kanu ground area.

Mr Loitiptip, who claimed he was attacked by three persons and that he shot the woman while defending himself, had vanished after the incident but Sunday afternoon surrendered to police.

Police reports indicate that a firearm with 13 bullets was recovered from the legislator’s bodyguard and and two spent cartridges from the scene.

The court on Monday ordered the MP to report at local DCI office in every two days until November 1, 2021 when the case will be mentioned.
