Isiolo MCAs Tuesday unanimously elected Mohammed Roba Qoto, a former executive adviser to Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, as the third Assembly Speaker.

Mr Qoto garnered all the 18 votes with his competitors Paul Mero and Hassan Kumpa getting none during elections held at the Assembly shortly after the legislators were sworn in at an event presided over by clerk Salad Boru.

Surprisingly, he shares one of the names with his predecessor Hussein Roba and pioneer Speaker and incumbent Isiolo South MP Mohammed Tupi.

The new Speaker sworn in unopposed Deputy Speaker David Lemantile who has held the post for the last 10 years after Ngaremara’s Peter Losu quit the race.

Mr Qoto asked the newly sworn in MCAs to direct their energy towards bettering the lives of electorates who voted them into office.

“We all have a responsibility to deliver to the people of Isiolo who are the core of all businesses in the Assembly. Your trust in me is not misplaced,” he told MCAs during his inauguration speech.

He asked the ward representatives to serve the Mwananchi with dignity, purpose and honour.

The Speaker lauded clerk Boru and the ordelies for conducting peaceful election.
