Education CAS Mumina Bonaya has reiterated the government’s commitment towards ensuring schools yet to receive desks being distributed under the Sh1.9 billion economic stimulus program receive them soonest possible.

While commending Nairobi County for having achieved 100 percent distribution, Ms Bonaya said many counties had approached the 100 percent mark.

“I urge them to step up the distribution as we seek to complete the exercise and focus on effective learning and exams preparation,” the CAS said.

In Nairobi, 14, 490 desks have been delivered to primary schools at cost of Sh36.2 million and 5150 delivered to secondary schools to a tune of Sh19.75 million.

The roll-out of the government’s program is expected to benefit primary and secondary schools with 625, 000 desks in total.

Ms Bonaya said 99 percent of learners countrywide had reported back to school and that the Inter-Agency Stakeholders Group was working hard to trace the remaining learners to ensure they are enrolled back to school.
