Siaya Governor James Orengo has formed a taskforce to audit the financial operations of the county for the last two years in efforts to streamline key services and weed out ghost workers.

Governor Orengo revealed that the team of seven members will review the existing financial systems, audit the revenue collection and efficiency of county government activities and supply chains.

The taskforce will also assess and recommend reforms on governance structures and systems to enhance service delivery while also advising the county government on sector-based growth and development and automation of operations among others.

The team has been ordered to submit an interim report in a month’s time and conclude the task within two months.

The team that will be chaired by FCPA Edward Ouko will receive technical support from the Institute of Economic Affairs.

Other members of the taskforce are Prof Adams Oloo, Dr Peter Joseph Okoth, Mr Jared Buoga, Dr Grace Ongile, Ms Bella Akinyi and Rowena Stella Ndeda who has been appointed the secretary.

This comes a week after his Homa Bay counterpart Gladys Wanga suspended revenue collection and ordered a forensic audit of the department to establish loopholes used by rogue officers to siphon public money.
