A police officer who allegedly shot dead his lover in 2019 has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Kakamega High Court.

Mr Patrick Nyapara is said to have shot Christine Maonga, a secondary school teacher, several times following an argument on January 14.

While delivering the ruling, Justice William Musyoka, said the prosecution’s 21 witnesses proved beyond reasonable doubts that indeed Mr Nyapara was guilty of the offence.

The officer had been deployed at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices in Navakholo where they were living with the deceased.

According to family members, the two had no history of domestic fights and were living peacefully with their young daughter.

The accused lawyer Arembe Olaka revealed that they would appeal against the ruling.
