Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya has resigned from public service to pursue political ambitions.
Mr Natembeya announced his resignation on January 12, 2022 in a meeting in Nakuru attended by 14 county commissioners from the region who he had earlier held a closed door meeting with.
The father of three, who served as the Regional Commissioner for two-and-a-half years, said he was ready to battle it out with his opponents in the Trans Nzoia County gubernatorial race.
He is the first public servant to tender resignation according to the constitution ahead of February 19 deadline.
Mr Natembeya whose work in public service spanned for 26 years said he had during his service contained highway banditry in Isiolo, illicit brew and outlawed Mungiki in Central and spearheaded conservation of Mau Forest while the Narok County Commissioner and the regional coordinator.
He is likely to vie on Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa’s associated Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).
