Two bandits are in police custody after they were arrested following a fierce gun exchange with police officers in the ongoing security operation at Kainuk, Turkana County.
Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan said dozens of armed criminals ambushed Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and police officers along the border of West Pokot and Turkana Counties on Wednesday evening.
The administrator refuted claims that some police officers were killed said it was a plan by the criminals to instill fear to the locals.
The security team is conducting a 30-day security operation in parts of Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Samburu, Laikipia and Elgeyo Marakwet to flush out armed bandits who have been terrorizing residents and stealing livestock in the recent past.
The two will remain in custody awaiting arraignment.
