Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has defected to Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA Party after several hours of closed door meeting at the DP’s Karen residence.

The Governor, who was accompanied by more than 29 MCAs from Kirinyaga, earlier said she was consulting widely and would follow political path of the county residents.

Ms Waiguru was with among others MPs Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Aisha Jumwa (Malindi) and Senators Susan Kihika and Kipchumba Murkomen of Nakuru and Elgeyo Marakwet.

After the Tuesday meeting, Ms Waiguru posted pictures adorn a UDA cap with DP Ruto, MPs and MCAs saying she had after extensive consultation with Kirinyaga people decamped to Hustler nation.

“2022 Chama ni UDA, form ni Hustler, Mpango ni bottom up,” she shared on Twitter.

She however faces huge contest for UDA ticket with Kirinyaga Woman Rep Wangui Ngirici who has already declared that she will vie for Governor’s seat in 2022 general elections.

Ms Waiguru had on August 17 while with ODM Leader Raila Odinga, said it was time for a united and inclusive Kenya and that citizens regardless of their tribe, gender, age and economic status deserved to live in peace and with equal opportunities.

She was among a team of Governors who were previously spearheading Mr Odinga’s campaigns but withdrew recently.
